If you began your search by clicking on the"Search / Browse NCSTRL collection" option of the system homepage, the simple search will be performed over the entire NCSTRL collection. If you began your search by clicking on the"Search / Browse ERCIM collection" option of the system homepage, the simple search will be performed over the entire ERCIM collection. Otherwise, if you have selected a local collection, then the simple search will be effective only on this local collection (which may contain sub-collections).

You can search for documents with either a


SIMPLE SEARCH

Simple search consists of a single field in which the query is entered and two buttons: one to activate the search, the other to clear the field of previously entered values.

The query can consist of one or more words (see the Note regarding "stop words"). The terms in this field are always "ORed ".

The search returns all documents whose author, title, or abstract contain any of the entered keywords.


FIELDED SEARCH

The fielded search form for the NCSTRL collection has three logical components.

The fielded search form for the ERCIM / Local collection has four logical components.

Search criteria can be specified as follows:

Bibliographic Fields:

If you wish to specify search criteria based on bibliographic keywords, fill in at least one of the keyword fields listed below and activate either the AND or the OR button to determine the relationship between the fields. The default value is OR.

If you wish to select the search results according to type, year, or language, fill in one or more of the following fields:

Your search criteria will be rejected if you do not enter a value in at least one bibliographic field and select at least one collection.


DIRECT SEARCH

Direct search consists of a text entry field in which the unique document identifer can be entered to access that document directly and two buttons: one to active the search, the other to clear the field of previously entered value.


Rules for bibliographic keyword matching

Words that you enter in any bibliographic keyword field (Author, Title, Abstract, Abstract in other language, Subject) are matched to bibliographic entries according to the following rules:

Note: Do not use short, common words or single letters in the bibliographic keyword fields (e.g., "a", "for","in","of","s","the", etc.). Words with high frequency, such as "use", "well", etc, are considered to be common words as well, and are automatically discarded.
You will be asked to re-enter your search if the keyword you enter matches too many words in the database.
